Trading Standards are mostly responsible for the regulation of consumer legislation in relation to garages. Primarily their Officers are responsible for checking garages to ensure that the right amount of fuel is given from the pumps. They also ensure that the price of fuel is prominently displayed at the roadside.

Officers also inspect the shops on garage sites for compliance with food, safety and pricing legislation. Another important role of Trading Standards is the carrying out of vehicle checks sold from garage forecourts to investigate whether the mileages are correct.
