What is RSS?

RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication' - it lets you have the latest news and new web content delivered directly to you. Not all websites provide RSS feeds, but there is a growing trend to provide RSS feeds on websites for information such as new releases, events, jobs etc.

How can I get an RSS feed?

There are a number of steps you need to take to start using RSS feeds:

Step 1 - get a feed reader. In order to receive RSS feeds, you must have a feed reader, also called an aggregator. There are a number of different feed readers, many of them free, some of which are accessed using the browser and some of which are downloadable applications. With a little bit of searching, you should be able to find one which appeals to you.

Step 2 - subscribe to a feed. When you come across a website with an RSS feed that you would like to add to your feed reader, you can usually do this in one of number of ways which depend on the feed reader you are using. You can subscribe to the RSS feeds on this site in the following ways:

  • Drag the URL of the RSS feed into your reader.
  • Cut and paste URL of the RSS feed into your reader.
  • If you are using one of the web based readers, NewsGator or My Yahoo you can click on the appropriate link to add it to your feed.

Can I stop it?

Yes, just go into your reader and simply delete the appropriate feed or URL.

Do I have to use a separate Feed Reader?

No, most up to date web browsers already support RSS directly. These include Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2, Opera 8.5, Netscape 8 and Safari 1.2. There are also RSS specfic browsers, such as - Deepnet Explorer and Maxthon.
